Best Society, History and Politics Blog – It’s True! It’s True!
This is a blog that has been around since 2002. The topics are varied, showcasing the writing talent of the blogger. As he describes himself, he’s a blogger wearing too many hats and his blog definitely pays tribute to this fact.
Best Literature / Literary Blog – Pointless Paranoia
Pointless Paranoia is a multi – language blog. By multi – language, I mean Filipino and English. There are poems in Filipino, translated songs in Filipino and even the intro is in Filipino. The posts are mostly about poems and short stories.
Best Culture and Arts Blog – Sining Factory
Sining is the Filipino term for arts. This personal blog is about the Pinoy arts and entertainment. The blogger is an artist himself, a dancer, a performer, an artist - painter and a photographer. His blog posts showcase, among others, crafts (reinder gift wrapper, anyone?), a portfolio of his photographs and food photos.
Best Advocacy Blog – Environment Philippines
This blog and its contents are the results of its owner’s concern for the environment. He writes about the environment and he accepts press releases about the environment. Some of his blog posts are about save the dolphins movement, environmental programs, using eco – friendly products, eco – friendly shops and stores and road revolution.
Best Single Blog Post – “Blood Stains, the Smell of Disinfectant and the RH Bill” by Orchestroscopy
Okay, admittedly, this is not a blog but just a blog post. But then again, it is not just a blog post. It is composed of the blogger’s various experiences in her work as a nurse. And at the same time, it lists the reasons why she supports the RH (Reproductive Health) Bill of the Philippines. And after reading her post, I’m even more convinced that the RH Bill is badly needed by our country.
Best Photo Post – “2011: It’s 1/1/11; A New Year and a Fresh Start” by Lantaw
This is another not-a-blog winner but after seeing the post, I have to say “Wow!” The photos in this post are simply stunning. Lantaw is the pseudonym used by Allan Barredo, who takes outdoor and travel photos to post in his blog. He is an Information Technology professional and, get this, he describes himself as an “amateur” photographer. After seeing his photos, I have to say there is nothing amateur about them. If he’s looking for another profession, photography is indeed an alternative profession for him.
Bloggers’ Choice – Libre Lang Mangarap (It’s Free to Fantasize)
This is simply a unique winner – blog because most, if not all, of its posts are in Tagalog. Some of the words used are really deep and it’s quite fascinating to read them. I have to confess, it’s quite difficult to write an article that’s 100% Filipino and this guy, Otep, managed to pull it. No wonder he is the bloggers’ choice.
Readers’ Choice – The Culture Shack
As the blogger – owner, Andrew Gahol, this is where “people meets culture meets art meets perspective”. He aims to touch his readers through his posts in this blog, which he refers to as his ‘little museum’.
And that’s (finally!) it. These are the last 8 winners in the 2011 Philippine Blog Awards. Congratulations to the winners!
To the Filipino readers, please show your support for our fellow Filipinos by visiting their blogs and leaving comments. Thank you.
